Brad Pitt Speaks on the New Age of Movie-Making

Brad Pitt recently expressed his views on the changing movie business and gives his prediction of what’s to come. The A-list actor says that he believes that “the age of filmmaking dominated by big studios is over.” With the new wave of advanced technology at everyone’s fingertips, not to mention sites like YouTube, where everyone, no matter the skill level, has the chance to birth new ideas through the art of filming, this could very well be a sooner reality.

Although not everyone is destined to be the next Spielberg, it certainly helps that more accessible technology allows the possibility to explore that potential. The age of social networking also gives independent filmmakers the chance to reach a larger audience, thus giving anyone a shot at getting their films recognized by niche audiences who may not always find those films in mainstream Hollywood.

The new age of freedom in creativity definitely helps to spark more demands for quality entertainment. Independent studios and other unknowns now have the chance to make their own work without having the consent or control from major studios.

According to a source, Brad Pitt tells the Hollywood Reporter, “Now as we see the digital camera on the rise and people being able to make films on their own in a renegade style, we will see more talent that may not have got a chance before.” He also adds, “Because we’ve been doing something the same way, for so long, does that mean it’s alright for today?”

Of course, everyone will have their opinion on what is good and what is bad. Others, like the studios, may choose to abide by the old formula, “If it isn’t broke, then don’t fix it.” The question then lies in whether or not this will be best in the long-run in an ever-changing world that demands new creative content for entertainment. Even if the studios stay loyal to the same movie-making formula, the audiences are ultimately the ones who will have the final say in what gets to stay and what no longer works. “Out with the old and in with the new,” as they say.
