Can Breaking Dawn Part 2 hold even a flicker of a flame to the last film in the Harry Potter series? Will Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 reign supreme over the last installment in The Twilight Saga?
According to a report from E! Online, the flame burned out. Even though the second half of Breaking Dawn enjoyed a $141.1 million debut weekend, it doesn’t hold a candle to the final Harry Potter film.
Twilight is growing overseas at a rapid rate, and that will keep the money flowing in from box office sales. However Deathly Hallows: Part 2 shattered all its box office records when it premiered back in 2011. Breaking Dawn can’t say the same.
Once again, as with most any film, demographics play a huge role in box office sales. Harry Potter tends to draw a family crowd. Moms and Dads went along with their children. Older teens attended in groups. And adults bought tickets even if their kids were grown in gone or never existed in the first place. It was beloved by all, and Twilight films can’t use that claim to fame.
Breaking Dawn Part 2 saw great numbers, but a huge percentage of those numbers were made up of people in the 12-30 age group. If older folks went, they were definitely in a minority.
Do you think Summit Entertainment, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart or even director Bill Condon had any idea that this last installment in The Twilight Saga would in a rather odd way be usurped by a film that premiere in 2011? Does it surprise you at all?
Do you prefer the Twilight series of films over those in the Harry Potter series? Or are you pro-Harry all the way?
