Candlelight Vigil For Missing Iowa Girls

Filed in Gather News Channel by on December 6, 2012 0 Comments

A candlelight vigil was held late Wednesday evening at Meyers Lake in Evansdale, Iowa, where the bikes belonging to Lyric Cook-Morrisey and Elizabeth Collins were found on July 13th, when the girls went missing.

Around 50 people were gathered there to pray for the girls, whose remains are believed to have been located. While it has not been officially confirmed that the bodies are those of Lyric and Elizabeth, the information given by authorities left little doubt of the identities of the remains. Some had accepted this and were grieving, while others still held out hope that girls are alive.

The disappearance of Lyric and Elizabeth has been highly publicized, with the whole country watching the tiny Iowa town, hoping for the girls to come home. Suspicions were heavily cast on family members, as well as some of the shadier characters they associate with, but now is when the tough part begins: finding the person or persons responsible for this.

Who hurt these little girls? How long have they been there? Is there some creep out there, finding amusement in everyone’s concern for the missing Iowa cousins? Will there be any evidence, leading to a suspect? Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Abben gave no information about the location where the bodies were found, their condition, or the approximate age and sex of the remains, but there is a news conference scheduled for 4pm on Thursday, after the state medical examiner confirms the identity of the bodies.

While it is still a slight possibility that the bodies are not Lyric and Elizabeth, it’s more likely they are. Surely this will be a very difficult time for the family of these girls. Hopefully, whoever did this is caught and justice is swift.
