Among the surprises at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards 2010 was the size of Carrie Underwood’s engagement ring, and among the non-surprises was the success of Lady Antebellum, a newcomer on the scene this year that captured the award for Song of the Year.

Antebellum’s ‘Need You Now’ earned the highest honor for a song at the show after experiencing remarkable crossover success, gaining significant time on country airwaves as well as on pop stations around the country.

According to Reuters.com, the hit song spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard charts. It continues to get major play on pop and country stations and has springboarded the previously unknown group into immediate stardom.

Underwood, meanwhile, sported a massive diamond ring courtesy of boyfriend-turned-fiance Mike Fisher. The country songstress has been linked to several sports stars in the recent past, most memorably and notably Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, but is set to wed Fisher this summer.
