Carrie Underwood Talks ‘Soul Surfer’ Acting Debut with Jay Leno

The new movie Soul Surfer is full of big stars—including singer Carrie Underwood making her film debut. Underwood stopped by The Tonight Show on April 6, 2011, to talk to Jay Leno about what her new movie is about.
But before they talked about Soul Surfer, they talked about how her cool dress wouldnÂ’t get through security, American Idol (yes she voted for herself when she was a contestant), and her husband Mike FisherÂ’s obsession with UFC.

Carrie Underwood and Jay Leno saved talk about Soul Surfer for the final minutes of the hour. Of the movie, Leno said that he liked the fact that it was more of a girl buddy movie rather than a film about girls being crazy about boys.

In fact, the movie has little to do with boys. ItÂ’s about Bethany Hamilton who loses an arm in a shark attack while surfing. Underwood plays the youth counselor, Sarah Hill, who helps Bethany overcome the trauma.

Underwood enjoyed acting and said, of the real Sarah Hill, “Everybody loves her, so it wasn’t difficult for me to play that part.”

Joking aside, Underwood believes itÂ’s a very inspirational movie, one that sheÂ’s proud to be a part of.

Soul Surfer opens in theaters everywhere on April 8, 2011.
