Nick Lachey is 100 percent pure class.
The former 98 Degrees singer, 37, tells USA Today that he’s not listening to people who question the timing of ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s betrothal to Eric Johnson, which was announced just days after Lachey and longtime love Vanessa Minnillo, 30, went public with their own engagement.
“I don’t have any thoughts on any of it. I don’t know what people are saying,” Nick tells the newspaper. “I’m not the one to speculate on timing.”
Nick has said all the right things since his very public bust-up with the singer five years ago, saying “I wish her the very best” when her engagement to the former football player was announced. Nick has been nothing but classy since the divorce, refusing to badmouth his ex in public, which is more than can be said for Jessica, 30, who made nasty comments about both Nick and Vanessa during an awkward restaurant run-in a couple months back; she was also reportedly upset that Nick got engaged before she did and is fast-tracking her wedding so she can beat Nick and Vanessa down the aisle!
Very mature, girl. You’re in your 30s now — it’s time to grow up!
For his part, Nick tries to deflect any future questions about his ex by saying he’s too busy with his own wedding.
“I’m very excited,” he tells UsMagazine.com. “We haven’t really planned anything yet. We’re still newly engaged so we’ll [eventually] get to all that.”
Nick doesn’t expect to do much actual wedding planning, though, saying, “Tell me where to be and what to wear and I’ll be there.”
He also jokes that he doesn’t plan on getting his new fiancee any gifts for the holidays after splashing out for an estimated $125,000 engagement ring.
“I think I’m done. I’ve already fulfilled my gift-giving for the year,” he says.
Oh, come on, Nick. At least get her an iTunes gift card or something!
What do you think? Do you actually kind of respect Nick for being so gracious about Jessica’s antics? Do you think he and Vanessa will last? And do you remember Vanessa actually playing Jessica in Nick’s post-divorce video for “What’s Left of Me”? (Awkward!) Sound off below!
