‘COD: Modern Warfare 3′ Will Not Have ‘Prestige Edition’

According to creative strategist Robert Bowling, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not come with a “Prestige Edition,” unlike previous installments like Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. There have been three editions for past titles, including regular and “Hardened.” Each one comes with progressively more content than the last. So what does this mean for gamers?

In reality, only hardcore gamers tend to buy the Hardened and Prestige editions. Of course, they cost progressively more money, explaining why fewer and fewer people purchase each one. Most of the extra content offered appeals to huge fans of the game in question. For example, a person may receive some exclusive downloadable content, art books, DVDs, and more.

Previous games offered the Prestige edition for over $100. Currently, the Hardened version for Modern Warfare 3 costs $99.99. The average gamer is not going to care too much about this announcement. However, some games do feature some great third tier editions, such as the “Legendary” package for Halo: Reach.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases on November 8 and is sure to become a best-selling game right away. During that timeframe, however, the game faces some competition for gamers from Battlefield 3. That may not hurt the game’s sales at all though.
