TBS has picked up the syndication rights to Cougar Town and will start airing a new season in 2013 (TV Line).
Since the airing of the show’s pilot, it has sometimes seemed that cancellation rumors have dogged the ABC comedy. Critics have liked the show, but viewers were less kind and the show has struggled.
The title was perhaps partly to blame. Viewers looking at it might be forgiven for thinking that it was a sex comedy filled with Samanthas (of Sex and the City); and while the show did start with Jules (Courtney Cox) dating a couple of younger men (Nick Zano and Scott Foley), there was never that hunting aspect that one might associate with the word “cougar”, although the recurring character of Barb (Carolyn Hennesy) took care of that. Instead, the show was an adult comedy that could be quirky and crazy, and it was constantly in search of an audience.
TBS has decided that they know who Cougar Town‘s audience is, and that the show will fit in nicely with their own lineup. A 15-episode season will air in 2013.
