Could Katy Perry Play Marilyn Monroe?

Katy Perry might play Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway play if Harvey Weinstein gets his way.

Lindsay Lohan will not be happy about this—after all, the singer/actress is so obsessed with Marilyn Monroe that she recently agreed to pose nude as the icon for Playboy (she’s already done it once before in the pages of New York magazine). And since Lindsay can act and sing (sort of), wouldn’t she be the best choice to play Marilyn in a Broadway play?

Producer Harvey Weinstein doesn’t seem to think so. In fact, it’s really got to make Lindsay Lohan hot that he’s considering casting Katy Perry, a girl with very little acting experience, in a play based on the movie My Week with Marilyn.

The film starring Michelle Williams has been getting tons of attention lately, so now would be the perfect time to start planning a My Week with Marilyn play. The upcoming TV series Smash will probably also increase the public’s interest in all things Monroe—the musical show is about the cast of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe, and it stars American Idol alum Katharine McPhee and real-life Broadway star Megan Hilty as actresses competing to win the part of Marilyn in the play.

But while Weinstein could certainly sell tickets to a play based on My Week with Marilyn, is Katy Perry really the best choice for the part? Her acting experience right now is limited to a guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother and voicing Smurfette in The Smurfs movie, so she hasn’t exactly proved that she’s ready for such a big role—especially one that would require her to be able to act in front of a live audience night after night.

Katy does have the curves for the part, and she’s comfortable on a stage. But do you think this is enough for her to land the coveted role of Marilyn Monroe?
