Craig Stowell provided one of the most memorable testimonies at yesterday’s gay marriage repeal hearings in Concord, NH. On the verge of tears, the self described Republican and former marine defended his homosexual brother’s right to marry.
It’s not the only way that Craig Stowell is standing up to his own party’s plans to ban same sex marriage in New Hampshire. WBZ-TV reports that the Iraq War veteran recently took out a full page ad in the Union Leader, the Granite State’s influential conservative newspaper.
“My brother is finally happy and comfortable with who he is,” Stowell told New Hampshire lawmakers in the ad. “I am so proud of the man he has become, and no one has the right to take away his freedom to marry.”
Craig Stowell is a real life conservative who believes that government should not play a role in managing the personal lives of New Hampshire citizens. Judging by the turnout at yesterday’s hearings at the State House in Concord, he’s not alone. Gay marriage supporters outnumbered opponents 700-100, according to Standing Up For New Hampshire Families.
