Criminal Minds Season 6 – JJ’s Moving on & up?

Some shows have cast changes faster than some people change clothes.  Others don’t.  The CBS hit procedural crime drama, Criminal Minds, is in the latter category.  Since the show began, only two characters have left, and each was replaced by characters that have become loved by the fans (Lola Glaudini’s Elle Greenaway was repalced by Paget Brewster’s Emily Prentiss and Mandy Patinkin’s Jason Gideon by Joe Mantegna’s David Rossi).  And now it’s getting ready for another change.

JJ’s Leaving the Team – Why?

Earlier this summer it was announced that A.J. Cook would not be back to reprise her role as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau in the series’ sixth season.  She will be in a couple of episodes to finish up her story line, but what’s her character’s future?  According to TVGuide, Simon Mirren, the executive producer on the show, said that she’s moving on to another job, and that job may in fact be more important than the BAU.  Mirren said, “we’ve always intimated that JJ…has connections outside of our world–other more powerful elements in the government.  Those powers that she’s connected with come back into her life….our loss is going to be someone else’s gain.”  JJ was the team’s media liaison, and her role has been vital in keeping things smooth when the team works with a police department.  It’ll be interesting to see who replaces her on the team, since her replacement when she went on maternity leave (Meta Golding’s Jordan Todd) wasn’t the right fit for the job or what it entails.

What do you think of how JJ’s leaving the team?  Will you be watching season 6 of Criminal Minds?
