‘Criminal Minds’ Season 8: Matthew Gray Gubler Will Continue Playing Reid

Criminal Minds season 8 is going to have a bit of a different cast with the addition of Jeanne Tripplehorn and the loss of Paget Brewster, but the last question mark for the cast has now signed.

More Reid in CM Season 8!

Deadline has reported that “Matthew Gray Gubler has signed a new two-year deal” to stay with the CBS drama, and with that, “his salary has been bumped to just north of $100,000 per episode.” It wouldn’t be the same without Gubler’s Dr. Reid, and it would’ve been a significant loss for the show to return without two of its team. Now, there’s no reason to be concerned about that.

With Gubler signing on for more, it’s impossible not to wonder if he’ll direct again Criminal Minds season 8. He’s directed an episode for each of the last three seasons and done very good jobs with each, so hopefully he does that again. With his return is also the possibility that they could explore more about Reid, including perhaps returning to that storyline about his headaches. That could also mean a return from Jane Lynch as his mother. Since the show focuses so much on each case, only bits and pieces are revealed about the characters’ personal lives—which is a good thing. It works for the show, and that’s why they can bring these storylines in and address them over multiple episodes (and seasons).

Will you be tuning in to Criminal Minds season 8 this fall?
