Criminal Minds returns with new episodes on CBS on September 26, and that’s when fans can decide for themselves what they think of the newest BAU team member, Alex Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn).
CM Season 8 Episode 1 “The Silencer” Official Description
“When a Texas prisoner escapes during a transfer, he leaves behind victims with his unique trademark, sewing their mouths shut, a signature the BAU remembers as unique to the UnSub ‘The Silencer.’ While they investigate who he was and who he’s become, the BAU also gets to know the newest member of the team.”
There is no big cliffhanger to resolve when the series returns, though there is the matter of the team dynamic now that Prentiss has taken a new job and left the BAU behind and Alex Blake has joined. One thing to watch for is if and how it affects the team as they work to solve the case. How will Alex fit in? What will she bring to this case as a linguistics expert?
Unsurprisingly, Jayne Atkinson will be in the Criminal Minds season 8 premiere. With the tease that Alex and Strauss do have a past, it makes sense that this will likely come up in a way right from the beginning of the season. While it may not be addressed in the first episode, it’s likely that someone will at least comment on the tension between the two because of that past. It has been revealed that Strauss put the blame on Alex for a case (Alex is no new agent and has been with the FBI since the age of 24).
Moving on to the case itself, the eighth season is going to start off with a disturbing one, and it has already been revealed that the team is going to find out about a victim being found with that same trademark—sewing the mouth shut—which introduces the recurring unsub of The Replicator. It sounds like the CBS procedural drama is going to get the season started off right—with a strong case, disturbing unsub technique, and introducing the new team member.
