The Dancing with the Stars 2011 Fall season resumed October 3 on ABC, and featured the remaining 10 couples as they told personal stories via dance. The most surprising performance of the night belonged to fashion guru Carson Kressley, who teamed with pro partner Anna Trebunskaya to deliver a supercharged, superfun Tango that earned a standing ovation from show attendees.
Carson selected 2003 as his most memorable year, thanks to the premiere of his hit show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He heralded the show for helping him to finally feel comfortable in his own skin. Anna choreographed the number around Carson’s “sense of style” to help him truly get into the groove, and Carson hoped that he’d be able to prove inspirational to “dweeby” kids like himself.
And get into the groove did he ever. Set to the tune of No Doubt’s “It’s My Life,” Carson and Anna’s dance was the evening’s most entertaining and most unexpected dance. He looked in control and completely in his element for the first time this season, and he absolutely owned everything from the catwalk struts to the high kicks.
The DWTS judges were impressed. Bruno Tonioli called it “insanely brilliant” and Carrie Ann Inaba praised Carson for successfully including nearly a dozen elements in the dance, including “a little bit of girly girly, a little little masculinity.” Len Goodman declared “you put the boy in flamboyant” and appreciated that for once, the dance had actual technical merit.
For their effort, Carson and Anna earned two eights and a seven, for a Dancing with the Stars 2011 week 3 score of 23. They trail leaderboard toppers Ricki Lake and Derek Hough by four points heading into Tuesday’s elimination.
Will Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya survive to dance during week 4? Tune in to the Dancing with the Stars 2011 week 3 results show October 4 at 9 p.m. on ABC to find out for yourself.
