‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2012 April 30 Review — Jaleel White Falters but Keeps Smiling

When Dancing with the Stars 2012 resumed April 30, the seven surviving celebrity/professional couples performed routines set to Classical music. Although it wasn’t a stellar night for actor Jaleel White, whose round one Viennese Waltz “didn’t quite work” for head judge Len Goodman, the former Steve Urkel kept a positive attitude that should earn him some extra votes.

During his rehearsal session with partner Kym Johnson, Jaleel expressed complete confidence in Kym’s abilities as a teacher and vowed to prove himself “the man to beat”.

“Did I Make the Most of Loving You?” served as the musical backdrop for Jaleel and Kym’s dance. The routine had pretty moments and both played their roles well, but it lacked flow and continuity of movement.

Len said he liked it “enough not to be cruel” but not enough to be kind. He thought the footwork needed to be more precise. Bruno Tonioli appreciated Jaleel’s attempt at tackling a lot of content, but criticized him for not linking his motions. Carrie Ann Inaba praised the storytelling, but knocked Jaleel for awkward hand motions and positioning.

Jaleel and Kym earned just 24 points for their dance, which left both visibly disappointed, but the actor promised to move forward with a good group round Tango. And he did just that. Jaleel and Kym, Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas, Maria Menounos and Derek Hough and Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower collaborated to deliver a Team Tango that the judges awarded with 27 points.

Given their previous presence in the bottom two and less than awesome week 7 scores, Jaleel White and Kym Johnson may well be in trouble come Tuesday’s elimination hour. To see how it plays out, watch the Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 7 results show at 9 PM on ABC.
