‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2012 May 21 Finals Recap — Donald Driver: 10 from Len?

The May 21 Dancing with the Stars 2012 finals featured the three remaining couples as they performed two routines each. So how did NFL star Donald Driver fare with the daunting judges’ pick round, during which he and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd were charged with the passionate Argentine Tango?

To prepare for the challenge, judge Carrie Ann Inaba joined the pair to offer up some pointers. Although she awarded their original week 5 iteration of the style a perfect 10, she noted that finicky head judge Len Goodman had given them only an 8. She suggested that they eliminate “filler” and work on making Donald’s movements “bigger” to satisfy her colleague.

Jem’s “They” served as the musical accompaniment for Donald and Peta’s dance. Donald looked slick in a cool blue suit, and it was a precise, sharp and exacting number worthy of the DWTS finals.

The panelists mostly agreed. Carrie Ann noted a new “crispness” in his motion and gushed “I loved it the first time and I loved it again”. Len was pleased with the additional content, but found the dance “a tad careful”. Bruno Tonioli appreciated the “strong storytelling” that drove the dance.

Donald and Peta earned 29 points–including another disappointing 9 from Len–for their Argentine Tango, which placed them a point behind leaders Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas on the round one leaderboard. After the round two freestyle scores were added, they finished with a near-perfect mark of 59, which tied them with William Levy and Cheryl Burke. Both couples trail Katherine and Mark by a point.

Will Donald Driver win Mirrorball glory? Watch tonight’s Dancing with the Stars 2012 grand finale on ABC and find out.
