‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2012 Semi-Finals Recap: Donald Driver Is Fierce

On Dancing with the Stars 2012 for the semi-finals, Donald Driver proved to be a fierce competitor as he danced his first number for the evening with partner Peta Murgatroyd.

After admitting that this dance would be emotional, the pro athlete and his pro mentor took on the waltz, a light-on-your-feet ballroom staple that requires a perfect frame and the illusion of floating above the floor boards. These two did just that as Driver’s Green Bay Packers teammates, including Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and coach Mike McCarthy, watched from the audience.

Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba was thrilled with what Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd had to offer for the DWTS semi-finals during their initial dance. The American arbiter said that the routine was done in a “dreamy” way and that the emotion was on full show, unlike the way these two performed last week on the TV talent show.

Inaba did mention that there were some missteps during the dance, but that it was still “mesmerizing” even given those little technical difficulties.

Meanwhile, Bruno Tonioli was “impressed” with this offering from Donald and Peta. He told the athlete turned dancer that the waltz is a much more difficult dance to conquer as compared to, say, the tango or the quickstep. But this big guy brought “a gentle soft quality to it” according to the Italian judge who was happy with how Driver extended his lines. Tonioli told Driver that he did “a fantastic job.”

As for Len Goodman?

This lead judge from the United Kingdom who can be quite gruff with his remarks was far from snarly on Monday’s semi-finals when it came to judging Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd for their waltz.

In fact, Goodman waxed nostalgic about the performance, saying that while these two danced he was taken back to an era when there was both “grace” and “elegance.” Although Len was thrilled with what he saw, he did lend some criticism, saying he would have liked to see Donald’s head a bit more lifted.

Still, when the scores came out, Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd earned a 9 from Len, a 9 from Carrie Ann, and a 10 from Bruno for a total of 28 out of a possible 30 for their waltz done to the song Kissing You. That was a great start to a great night on Dancing with the Stars 2012 for the semifinals.

With these kind of numbers, do you think Donald Driver has a chance of winning the coveted mirror ball trophy for 2012? Will he win DWTS this year, or will he be voted off the TV talent show come Tuesday night? Thoughts? Thanks.
