‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2012 Week 4 Recap — Katherine Jenkins suffers from too much ‘Attack’

When Dancing with the Stars 2012 resumed April 9, the competitors delivered a collection of routines set to famous rock and roll tunes. It wasn’t a stellar week for former leaderboard topper Katherine Jenkins, whose overly aggressive Paso Doble lacked artistry and drew uncharacteristic criticism from the judging panel.

During rehearsals, the talented opera singer struggled to channel her inner “Welsh warrior,” so partner Mark Ballas arranged for her to have boxing lessons to harness “that fighting spirit.”

When DWTS showtime rolled around, Katherine and Mark hit the floor to the tune of Muse’s “Time is Running Out.” Katherine was certainly super aggressive in a black cat suit. She had some lovely moments, but there was something uncharacteristically tentative about the performance as a unit. It simply wasn’t as graceful or as refined as her previous numbers have been.

Judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli expressed a mixture of approval and disapproval with Katherine’s dance. Bruno appreciated her “whirlwind of fury” but found her movements too undefined. Carrie Ann enjoyed the “intensity” of the number but like Bruno, didn’t think it was crisp enough. Finally, Len said “it had promise but it didn’t deliver.”

Katherine and Mark earned a respectable 24 points for their Paso Doble, which places them three points behind current leaders Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd on the week four leaderboard.

Are Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas in trouble entering Tuesday’s Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 4 results show? Given Katherine’s relative anonymity in America, a lower score than usual could well do them in. Tune in at 9 p.m. on ABC to see how it all plays out.
