When Dancing with the Stars 2012 resumed with a sixth week of competitive hoofing on April 23, NFL star Donald Driver continued his quest to earn a perfect 10 from persnickety head judge Len Goodman. Was he finally able to snag the score of his dreams courtesy of a Foxtrot on the arm of partner Peta Murgatroyd?
During the couple’s rehearsals, Donald talked about the importance of Motown Week as he recalled memories of his mom listening to classic hits on the radio when he was a child. In order to push the Wide Receiver to improve his frame and technique, Peta brought in a life-size cardboard cut-out of Len holding up his 10-paddle. Inspired, Donald vowed to have “perfect” technique when he hit the ballroom.
Perfect? No, but Donald and Peta’s live performance–which was set to the sounds of The Temptations’ “The Way You Do the Things You Do”–was solid. He had great expression and really good moves throughout, even if his hands were a little flat at times.
Bruno Tonioli was impressed with Donald’s sheer strength, and shared that he worried at times that Peta would wind up in the orchestra pit. He was also impressed with Donald’s showmanship. Carrie Ann Inaba enjoyed his transitions. Len praised him for how he’d come out and “exploded” in the ballroom, but told Peta to give him more challenging choreography during the weeks to come.
Donald and Peta earned 27 points for their Foxtrot–including a 9 from Len–which placed them two points behind co-leaders Katherine Jenkins and partner Mark Ballas and William Levy and partner Cheryl Burke entering the Motown Cha Cha Cha Marathon. Fourth place in the marathon earned them an additional 7 points, for a total of 34 on the evening. They trail leaders Katherine and Mark by 5 points entering Tuesday’s elimination.
Watch the Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 6 results show at 9 PM on ABC to see if Packer Nation will once again save Donald Driver to dance again, or if his fond dreams of earning a 10 from Len are over.
