‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2012 Week 6 Review—Melissa Gilbert Waltzes in the right direction

Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 6, which aired April 23 on ABC, featured the eight remaining celebrity/professional couples as they performed to live music by Motown legends. Actress Melissa Gilbert delivered a “lyrical” Viennese Waltz that earned a mix of criticism and praise, and ended the evening surprisingly tied with another popular hopeful.

Melissa’s pre-dance segment focused on the actress’ trouble with translating partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s comments into actual body movement, though post-performance, both decried the content, sharing that they hadn’t disagreed nearly as often as the edits suggested.

Fortunately, they got it together before they hit the ballroom to the smooth sounds of Smokey Robinson’s “Ooo Baby Baby”. Although Melissa still has an issue with keeping her shoulders down and relaxed, their Viennese Waltz had some truly lovely moments, including two very pretty spins.

The judges mostly approved. Carrie Ann noted the issue with Melissa’s shoulders, but asserted “I see artistry blossoming in you”. Len Goodman appreciated the routine’s “lyrical” quality but noted that she’d run low on energy near the end. Bruno Tonioli deemed it a job “well done” and told her she was going “in the right direction”.

The “right direction” scored Melissa and Maks 24 points entering the Motown Marathon, during which a fifth place finish earned them 6 additional points. Their DWTS week 6 total settled at 30 points, which places them in the bottom half of the pack and ties them with strong competitors Maria Menounos and Derek Hough.

Will Melissa Gilbert’s fans once again save her from the bottom two, or is the Dance Duel Jive in her future? Find out tonight during the Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 6 results show on ABC.
