‘Dancing with the Stars’ 2013 April 1 Recap: Wynonna Judd Gets Wild… Sort Of

Dancing with the Stars 2013 rolled on April 1 with a prom night themed evening of performances from the season 16 cast. Although a handful of celebs got stellar reviews from the judges, country mega star Wynonna Judd suffered at the hands of the spicy samba, earning an odd –and certainly unwanted– comparison to a well-known National Memorial.

During her rehearsal segment with pro partner Tony Dovolani, Wynonna shared that she hoped to “get into fourth gear and show [the judges] what I’ve really got.” In order to help her “unleash [her] inner tigress,” she and Tony met with Def Leppard, the legendary band who sang their song for the week, “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” Energized by the meeting (and by Tony’s pole dancing lessons), Wynonna promised to “give them what they asked for to the best of my ability.”

Looking ’80s fab in a black top and leggings and flanked by a hairband-ready Tony, Wynonna hit the DWTS ballroom to perform live. Unfortunately for the music legend, she looked lost and very tentative throughout the routine, as if she wasn’t entirely comfortable with the choreography. She gets an A for effort, but a less flattering grade for execution.

The panelists weren’t impressed. Carrie Ann Inaba said she’d “asked for wild,” but proclaimed much of the routine “a whisper.” Len Goodman quipped “you’re like Mount Rushmore: You look magnificent but you don’t move.” Bruno Tonioli was also disappointed, telling Wynonna “it was a bit sedated for a performance” and “you’ve got to hit it hard, darling.”

For their effort, Wynonna and Tony earned a paltry 15 points, which leaves them at the very bottom of the week three leaderboard and very vulnerable entering the April 2 elimination. They trail night three winners Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough by a full 10 points.

Will Wynonna Judd’s fans save her from elimination? Watch the Dancing with the Stars 2013 week three results show tonight on ABC to find out.
