Daylight Saving Time 2012 Ends: Fall Back One Hour

It is time for Daylight Saving Time to end for 2012. Sometimes this event is also called Daylight Savings Time or even Fall Back. What it means for you, though, is that you get an extra hour in this weekend! It is also nice that this event was moved back in 2007 because now it comes after Halloween, so trick-or-treaters get to take advantage of the additional hour of sunlight.

File:End CEST Transparent.pngYou should move your clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. If you don’t, you risk showing up early for everything all day on Sunday. Another thing you should consider doing when Daylight Saving Time ends is check your smoke detector batteries. This is a good time to take care of this normal household maintenance.

While most states observe this time change, there are a few places in the U.S. that do not participate. Among those are Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

For the next several months, it will get darker earlier. You will not spring forward until the second Sunday in March 2013. While it can be tough to have less sunlight to spend time outside, it does provide a nice transition into winter and the holiday season. It gets dark early, and people can stay warm with nice fires and hot cocoa or tea.

Do you enjoy the time change? If not, would you like to see it go away eventually? Perhaps the U.S. could just stay forward all the time like some other countries do? What do you think? Additionally, what will you do with this weekend’s additional hour?
