Due to rainy conditions, the Daytona 500 start time and date was delayed for the first time in the race’s history. Fans are hoping that by Monday night, Daytona International Speedway will be revved up and ready to go!
The previous Daytona start time was scheduled for about 1PM EST on Sunday afternoon, but with a slick track that was impossible. Now the latest reports say that NASCAR is hoping they can get the race going at 7PM EST on Monday night. NASCAR president Mike Helton gave his comments saying:
“I can’t guarantee you we will start at 7 o’clock, but the chance of starting at 7 o’clock is a whole lot better than at noon.”
According to ESPN, Helton also said that Fox TV is fully on board to stay with them and televise the race. However, they haven’t ruled out the possibility that the race start time may be delayed another day and begin on Tuesday. Originally, they had hoped to have the race start on Monday at Noon EST.
Luckily for NASCAR and its fans, the latest weather report indicated a 20 percent of rain from 7PM on. The drivers are probably more than anxious to get going, and one has to wonder if this extra wait time benefits any driver more than another. If nothing else it probably makes those who were nervous for it to start even more anxiety-ridden as they wait for it to finally start!
Will you be watching the Daytona 500? Who are you rooting for to win this year’s race?
