Umbilical cord around her neck, struggling to breathe…like a whale drowned in sand.  Mother insisted she never leave home.

 

Fifty-three years. 

On the landing of the ancient oil-tanker.

Jumping clumsily, wings–too fragile, too delicate to permit her to do anything else…

 

She fell with the grace of a ballerina.
