Demi Lovato Comes Clean About Drug Use

She may only be 19 years old, but Disney darling Demi Lovato has been through a lot the past few years and she is finally opening up about everything from her cutting to her cocaine use and her subsequent rehab.

In a recent interview with Fabulous, Demi admits that she doesn’t like to go into too much detail about her drug past, mainly because she knows she is a role model to a lot of young girls. What she did say was:

DemiLovatoApr09“Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs. They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass. I thought they were my friends. I thought I was having fun. Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says ‘no’. That’s why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me.”

All too often, child stars find themselves immersed in a world of drugs that they can’t pull themselves out of. There are a number of former child stars who have succumbed to their addictions, never being able to put their careers back together. Even though she spiraled down, Demi Lovato is one of the lucky ones.

She went to rehab in 2010 and, though she may not have been thrilled about it, admits that she “didn’t fight it.” Since then, she has been putting her life (and career) back on track, but admits that when it comes to her eating disorder she has “slipped up,” but has “learned from it.” She recently revealed her curvy bikini body and even though she isn’t stick-thin like some starlets, fans overwhelmingly said they like her body type as opposed to that of Ali Lohan’s.

Society places too much emphasis on weight and it is easy for young girls, especially those in the entertainment industry, to get caught up in the whirlwind of trying to look “perfect.” Demi Lovato is a prime example as to how that pressure can turn young girls to self harm and drugs. That being said, the fact that she has turned her life around and learned from her mistakes shows that she is a strong woman and an excellent role model for young girls.
