Demi Lovato Rocks an Interesting Ensemble: ’80s Grunge!

Demi Lovato is not only topping the charts with her hit single “Skyscraper” and her just-released third studio album Unbroken, which she has been promoting via a national press tour, she’s also making waves with some interesting style notes. This week, she’s made appearances and performed on Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and more, each time showing off her eclectic fashion choices.

But, at LAX airport on Thursday morning, Lovato jetted in to Los Angeles wearing an altogether different look; an ’80s grunge-inspired number, complete with ripped black tights and denim shorts that require way too many adjectives to be taken seriously… ultra-short, ripped, frayed, acid-washed, high-waisted and the list goes on. She paired said tights and shorts with a long sweater over what looks to be a tight black leotard to complete the ’80s throwback. Accessories included large cross earrings, a black hat and a cross-body purse, but of course.

It was definitely an unusual (euphemism for bad), if not creative, ensemble! Check out photos of the outfit on Celebuzz. It certainly didn’t look all that comfortable for travel. However, it’s not the first time Demi Lovato has channeled her retro, punk-pop side. About a month ago, she ventured out on a Los Angeles shopping trip wearing another ’80s-influenced fashion spectacle: a major shoulder pad blazer and platform booties.

But, Demi Lovato obviously has multiple style personalities and she’s not afraid to show off her curves, even recently admitting she’s proud of the 30 pounds she’s gained since rehab. Lovato can do glam as well as she can go grunge. She looked lovely showing off her assets in a leopard mini for Jimmy Fallon. And, at the recent 2011 NCLR ALMA Awards, she wore a nude-colored, Grecian goddess confection by Maria Lucia Hohan. That night, the best-dressed Lovato also happened to best fellow starlet and friend Selena Gomez to win Favorite TV Actress for her role in Disney’s Sonny with a Chance.
