Demi Lovato recently appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show where she thanked her old Disney pals Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus for always being there to support her. She revealed that the two women were her lifeline during her three-month stint in rehab for eating disorders, self-cutting, and depression. They always stood by her even though some people thought her decision to go public with her problems was unwise.
“Selena and I hadn’t spoken in a long time,” Demi Lovato revealed in the July 13 interview. “We just had some issues that we had to deal with. But the day I went into treatment I get a phone call from her and she was the one sobbing on the phone. She was like, ‘Are you OK? I’ve been crying non-stop. Are you sure you’re OK?’ And, all issues aside, I started crying too and I’m like, ‘Yes, I’m OK.'”
The former Sonny with a Chance star later described how Miley Cyrus also reached out to her.
“She sent me a Christmas present,” recalls Demi “and that meant a lot to me because I didn’t get Christmas presents in there (rehab)… I just have incredible friends.”
It is refreshing to learn that in the highly competitive and often downright cutthroat world of show business, these young celebrities took the time to reach out to a sister human being in need. Even when, like Selena Gomez, they had not seen their friend for some time. It is also even more to their credit that at their still very young ages, they possessed the maturity to set aside their former petty personal differences or disputes and realize what was truly important.
Kudos to Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. May you be friends forever.
