There were lots of new episodes on the Food Network yesterday but I only got to see two. First I watched Jamie at Home. He went into the woods hunting mushrooms and cooked some right there. The others he took home and put into other dishes. I had a few things I had to get done after that but was eagely waiting and keeping an eye on the clock so I could catch the first episode of Down Home with the Neelys.
Pat Neely and his brother and the rest of the Neelys have BBQ restaurants in Tennessee. I first became aware of them on Jamie and Bobby Deen’s show Road Tasted when they visited one of the Neelys BBQ places. Everything sure looked good and I was especially interested in the BBQ spaghetti. Well guess what? That was one of the recipes they did on the first episode. The next time I remember seeing Pat and his wife Gina was as guests on one of Paula’s Home Cooking shows. My daughter and I thought at the time they should have their own show. They were naturals on there.
Pat and his wife Gina are hosts of the new show. On the first episode one of Pat’s brothers also helped with some of the cooking. At the end of the show it showed the whole extended family have a Sunday dinner at home of the foods they made. Besides the BBQ spaghetti they made some of their famous beef and pork ribs, Sweet and Spicy Coleslaw, some of their famous BBQ sauce, and Pat’s Mom’s Strawberry Shortcut Cake. The cake was similar to a Jello Poke cake I’ve been making since I was a kid.
I really enjoyed the first episode. Pat and Gina have so much fun in the kitchen and it shows. I’m looking forward to more from them and their family. They are planning on sharing some of the restaurants favorite recipes as well as some of their family recipes.

Anyone else catch the first episode? What did you think? I can’t wait to try some of the recipes.
