Dr. Amy Bishop is reportedly the person responsible for the shooting of six people at the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH).Â The Harvard-trained neuroscientist was a biology professor at the University.Â The shooting occurred during a staff meeting shortly before 4 pm this afternoon.Â The meeting was being held in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology.Â The shooting may have been a result of Dr. Bishop being denied tenure.Â The shooting killed three unidentified faculty members and injured three others.
Dr. Amy Bishop has been arrested and remains in police custody.
An “Emergency Notification” on UAH’s Website gives the following statement:
There has been a shooting on campus.Â The shooter has been apprehended.Â The campus is closed tonight.Â Â Everyone is encouraged to go home.Â Classes are cancelled for tonight.Â Any additional cancellations or changes will be announced as they become available.Â There is a Command Center set up at Madison Hall Room 109.Â Counselors are available in University Center Rooms 125, 126 and 127 for anyone who wishes to speak with a counselor.
It has been confirmed no students are involved.
