Dr Drew Pinsky Says Mel Gibson’s Rants May be Result of ‘White-Out Rage’

You may have heard the tapes of Mel Gibson’s rants that are posted on Radar Online, directed at his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva – or if you can’t bear to listen to the actual recordings, you may have read the transcripts. After the recordings were released, you knew it would happen — “Celebrity Rehab’s” Dr. Drew Pinsky has weighed in on Mel Gibson’s racist and misogynist tirades. Dr. Drew has rendered his expert opinion of someone he has never actually examined and claims that Gibson’s recent outbursts could be the result of a “white-out rage”.

Dr. Drew says a white-out rage happens, “when a person flies into a rage and disassociates from the situation. The person essentially has a blackout and has no recollection of what was said or done while in that state. These blackouts are very, very common with alcoholics.” There’s a clinical term for being a jerk? Comparing an alcoholic’s blackouts to Gibson’s rants make little sense. One is the result of alcohol’s effects on the brain, the other is the result of speaking before you think. That little filter in your brain that censors what you say is shut off.

Giving Gibson an out for his hateful outbursts diminishes the experiences of those who really do suffer from dissociative disorders.
