Drabble Contest

This morning, I read about this drabble contest and wanted to highlight it for you. A number of you are already proficient at writing stories limited to 100 words and many of you are also skilled with writing stories with clever twists. I encourage all to try their hand at this.

The deadline is January 10, 2011.  The contest promoter is Writers Digest so I feel it’s a legitimate quest. After the deadline and winners are announced, I hope you’ll post your story here on Gather. In fact, use the tag writers digest 2011 contest. That way we can click on the tag and find everyone’s entry. Except for the winner. I imagine the winner’s story will be exclusively posted at Writers Digest website.  If the winner is a Gather member, I’ll make a point to wave a banner in the cybersky announcing it.

Win or lose, writing to a prompt and writing under deadline and writing in competition with others helps to refine your skills and often results in better product. So even if you think you have no chance to win, write anyway. Just cross off that particular objective from your list of “Why should I participate in this contest?” There are many other objectives.  It’s not all about winning.

Happy writing and best of luck!
