Drew Barrymore Buys Mansion Next to Oprah Winfrey

Drew Barrymore just bought a house–actually, mansion would be the word–nearly next door to Oprah Winfrey.

WouldnÂ’t half the world like to be next-door neighbors with Oprah? DonÂ’t we sometimes feel we already are?

No, this is not in ice-bound Chicago; this real estate is located in Montecito, California near Santa Barbara, says Comcast.net. It’s just a reasonable drive up the coast from Los Angeles.

A real bargain at $7-M, says Mail Online, this estate should keep Drew comfortable for a while. Montecito happens to be one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in America. Think they have block parties in the ‘hood? Not likely, but the tone could make up for any such defects.

Besides Winfrey, Drew BarrymoreÂ’s neighbors include Jeff Bridges, George Lucas, Rob Lowe, John Cleese, Julia Lois-Dreyfus, Kirk Douglas and Billy Baldwin. Did we forget Steve Martin? And, to add a bit of political color, Al Gore.

Friday night potlucks could be very interesting. This might feature a slightly aged crowd for the 35-year-old actress to blend with, but Oprah can help her fit rightFile:Drew Barrymore headshot by David Shankbone.jpg in.

And now, the house. ItÂ’s a Mediterranean-style villa, on 3.5 acres (making it a long hike to borrow a cup of sugar), with six bedrooms, two of them master suites, which open to a shared–shared (?)–sleeping porch with ocean breezes. This must be in case the air conditioning goes out, although, since the house is 72 years old, the original architect had possibly not thought to include such things.

Besides the six-car garage, Drew BarrymoreÂ’s new house has a library/office, a huge dining room and–what Comcast calls–“nooks and crannies” and a reflecting pool, in addition to the standard one for swimming. Sounds as if everything is included.

Barrymore has an equally gorgeous home in LA, not to mention the one in Manhattan. How can she ever remember where she left her favorite bikini? Worse yet, how does she know where to “phone home?”
