It looked the entire NCAA Championship game that Butler was going to have a shot to win a most improbable NCAA Championship. Instead, Duke just held on 61-59 for coach Mike Krzyzewski’s fourth national championship.

Gordon Hayward missed a fade away jumper with five seconds left and Butler trailing 60-59. Hayward then just rimmed out a halfcourt shot at the buzzer that would have won the game in the one of the best NCAA Championship games in a long while. It was 33-32 Duke at half.

Neither team led by more than six the entire game in a constant back and forth affair. Butler trailed 60-55 before cutting the lead to one with a chance to win the game. Similar to their Final Four game, Butler went on a eight minute field goal drought late in the game before two Matt Howard layups pulled them within one.

Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler starred for Duke. Kyle Singler had 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Scheyer had 15 while Nolan Smith added 13. Butler was led by Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack with 12 each.
