‘DWTS All Stars’ 2012 October 29 Recap — Shawn Johnson Injures Knee; Lowball Len Strikes Again

October 29 meant Cha Cha time for DWTS All Stars 2012 contestant Shawn Johnson and her pro partner Derek Hough. But how did the pint-sized athlete fare during the reality series’ debut Country Week after aggravating the knee injury that ended her gymnastics career?

During the pair’s rehearsal package, Shawn confessed to being chafed by the low scored handed down by head judge Len Goodman for her Guilty Pleasures Week Rumba, but tried to keep the bad feelings at bad as she prepared for the Cha Cha. From the outset, the perceptive Derek could tell that Shawn was hurt, and she finally admitted that she’d re-injured her knee while horsing around with fellow all-star Sabrina Bryan. Derek identified Dancing with the Stars as Shawn’s “replacement Olympics” and vowed to work to make the Cha Cha something she could master without endangering her health.

When the show went live, Shawn and Derek rode into the ballroom on a green tractor to the tune of Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”. A big model cow stood in the background, watching as the pair shimmied and shook their way through the routine, which was adorable and showed a sexy side of Shawn that she usually doesn’t put on display. She did go very light on content in her solo, which was disappointing, but it was still a very entertaining routine.

Bruno Tonioli exclaimed “forget about the tractor, you are the sexy one!” and appreciated “the fusion of country step and cha cha cha”. Carrie Ann Inaba agreed with Bruno, and loved how she finished every single move. She did have a criticism to offer, however, noting “you’re better than that solo”, which she called “a little bit stiff”, but she still thought it was a fantastic effort overall. Len claimed to have “no hidden agendas here” and he appreciated the choreography, but criticized Derek for too much “friffery” and too many gimmicks. In response, Derek promised to eliminate the fluff in the weeks to come.

Shawn and Derek earned a 28, including yet another lowball score of 8.5 from Len, which gave them a two-week total of 84.5 out of a possible 90 points. They enter tonight’s elimination in fourth place.

Will they live to dance during next week’s sure-to-be-entertaining fusion dance round? Watch the DWTS All Stars 2012 October 30 results show tonight on ABC and find out.
