The DWTS All Stars 2012 season resumed October 1 on ABC with a second round of dances by the remaining 12 hopefuls. Jilted bachelorette turned TV host Melissa Rycroft got the evening’s performances off to a fabulous start with a Jive that prompted one finicky judge to dub her “the fastest girl in town”.
During rehearsals with pro partner Tony Dovolani, Melissa reminded viewers that during her original stint on the show, injury had kept her from performing the Jive live. She said not being able to dance for judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman “absolutely broke my heart”, and vowed to “go out and redeem myself”.
Set to the tune of The Isley Brothers’ iconic “Shout”, Melissa and Tony’s Jive was just as frenetic as a Jive should be, and then some. Not only did Melissa master her kicks and flicks, but she wore the best accessory of all–a big smile–throughout.
Len grinned, noting that they’d set the bar high as the first ones out. He loved the technique and energy. Bruno called Melissa “the fastest girl in town” and declared the routine to be “one of the fastest Jives I’ve ever seen”. Despite the high praise, the feisty Italian also noted a few momentary flubs, which prompted Len to crankily respond “oh, shut up!” Carrie Ann Inaba said she was “so happy” that she got to see Melissa Jive because the style suited her so well.
The fleet-footed pair earned a 23.5 for their dance, a mark good enough for fifth place on the weekly leaderboard. They trail high-scorers Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel by 2.5 points heading into the second elimination.
Although Melissa’s dance was fun, it likely would’ve scored better marks as the evening wore on, so she could be in danger of getting the boot. After all, the competition is fierce, and the right couple doesn’t always go home.
The DWTS All Stars 2012 week 2 results show is set for October 2 on ABC, and will feature music by Dancing with the Stars season 14 runner-up Katherine Jenkins.
