It looks like “Elmo” is in hot water again. Kevin Clash has been accused by a fourth young man of underage sex in a scandal that just keeps growing. The latest accusation makes it hard to believe that Clash is innocent of any wrongdoing, especially since he chose to resign as the voice of the longtime lovable Sesame Street character.
The latest accuser is only known to the media as “John Doe,” but he filed a lawsuit on Monday against Kevin Clash, accusing the puppeteer of flying him from Miami to New York where they engaged in sexual activity in 1995, when the man was 16 and Clash was in his mid-30s.
“According to our lawsuit, Kevin Clash knowingly paid to transport a minor across state lines for the purpose of satisfying his sexual interests,” said prominent sex abuse lawyer Jeff Herman (who is representing all four alleged victims).
So far three of the young men claimed to being 16 years of age at the time of the sexual relationships with Clash, but one of them, Cecil Singleton, claims that he was only 15 years old. Kevin Clash denies any wrongdoing but won’t go into specifics about any of the allegations against him.
So do you think “Elmo” did this? It seems that, if anything, the alleged victims here are all 15 and older—far older than the target audience of Sesame Street or any of the kids who are on the set, presumably. It’s hard to accept that this lovable childhood icon would be guilty of such acts, but it’s possible, and if it is, he does deserve to face responsibility for his actions.
