Emma Watson Dishes on Her ‘Lesbian’ Look

Emma Watson recently talked about her pixie haircut, and how it gave rise to rumors that she was a lesbian. That’s right. Some people were actually stupid—er—naïve enough to think that just because La Watson cut her hair short, she was automatically gay. In other words, they assumed she’d joined the long line of other pixie-cut lesbians like Michelle Williams, Halle Berry, Amber Rose, Mia Farrow, and Audrey Hepburn. Good grief.

Harry Potter alumna Emma Watson recently revealed that many people misinterpreted her sudden 2010 hairstyle change as a statement about her sexuality. They thought it was her way of coming out as a lesbian.

“I had journalists asking me if [my haircut] meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now,” Emma recalled in an interview. “That haircut did make me realize how subjective everyone’s opinion is. Some people were crazy for it, and some people just thought I’d lost my s***.”

Despite all the ridiculously needless controversy caused by her pixie cut, Emma Watson remained philosophical about her decision to follow her own fashion sense, which is what prompted her to get the extreme haircut. She wanted to try a different look.

“All I can do is follow my instincts,” she mused, “because I’ll never please everyone.”

Now two years later, La Watson has no regrets about shearing off her long, curly Harry Potter locks. She’s content with her shorter ‘do for a variety of reasons.

“As I’ve got older,” said the 21-year-old starlet, “and since I cut all my hair off, I’ve felt a bit more liberated about trying different things out.”

So, there you have it. Emma Watson, happy with her short haircut and apparently not a lesbian.
