Is the Fifty Shades of Grey movie Robert Pattinson’s new obsession? And is he desperately seeking to play the coveted role of Christian Grey in it? It sure seems that way at times. Lately, the Breaking Dawn heart-throb seems to mention, allude, and/or refer to E.L. James’ “mommie porn” tome and/or the film version thereof more times than Kristen Stewart wailed: “I love him!” in her public apology for cheating. More intriguingly, is Rob the only contender weird enough to portray the uber-kinky Mr. Grey convincingly? He seems to think so. Is RPattz secretly, surreptitiously gunning for the part?
Interestingly, Pattinson disses 50 Shades of Grey with suspicious regularity. He’s stated, for example, that he’d rather star in a movie version of the spoof tome, Fifty Sheds of Grey. And he’s also talked about writing his own BDSM trilogy featuring a dominant woman and her submissive beau. He even joked in a recent MSN interview that he is not only definitely playing the role, he also wrote the book. That was very funny and of course, everyone laughed along with him. But are all these jokes and disses merely smokescreens? And is the bizarre quality of some of his remarks meant to prove his intrinsic eccentricity or “weirdness” equal to Mr. Grey’s? In other words, is Pattinson trying to identify with and “attach himself to” the part so that the film’s producers will override both E. L. James’ objections as well as the fan poll results, and offer him the coveted role? Very possibly.
“I mean every part I played is always kind of like sort of weird,” mused Rob in yet another interview. “But I don’t know, I find kind of random things, the movie I’m doing next, is a real guy…and he’s not particularly weird or anything, he’s just like, he’s kind of, well he’s a little weird.”
And so, of course, is the enigmatic, controlling, sadistic, psychologically damaged, fetishistically inclined Mr. Grey. And so, for that matter, is Robert Pattinson. So desperate—er—determined is RPattz to draw attention to himself in conjunction with this role, that in response to a question about his desire to play Christian, he once “admitted…that he would lick the pages of Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Yikes. Somebody give that poor man the part. Please.
Everybody else stay tuned.
