Foolish

In just a moment

I knew—But I was lost in your eyes

So I said it didn't matter,

That you were never mine to keep.

I basked in the heaven of your smile

Ignoring the hell in my heart,

While I waited with bated breath

for you to go.

Foolishly, I handed over my soul,

Giving everything

until there was no turning back.

But much too soon

Truth reared an ugly head

And my heart was broken,

Bleeding drop by drop

Into a cavity of despair.

Bittersweet agony.

Yet still I deny

What I know to be true

There is no freedom,

My heart's destiny lies unfulfilled.

A bleak forever awaits
