‘Fringe’ Canceled By FOX?

Fringe getting canceled seems to be in the cards for FOX at this time. During the third season of the show, ratings haven’t been the greatest, even with terrible lead-ins from the network. It’s not news that fans are going to want to hear, but TV by the Numbers reports that the show is a likely cancellation this spring. With The Finder and Alcatraz very likely to get canceled though, it allows for some hope that other dramas might find success at the last moment.

Heading into the episodes of Friday, February 24, it was very important for shows to pull in big numbers before heading into hiatus. That didn’t really happen for Fringe though, as the show turned in a fourth place performance and just 3.08 million estimated viewers. It drew a rating of 1.2 from the 18-49 demographic, which also placed the show as No. 4 ranked at 9 p.m. At least it beat out a repeat episode of Supernatural for the night.

FOX doesn’t typically air repeat episodes of Fringe, so the show won’t be back until the new episode in April and May. That gives the network a bit of time before making the ultimate decision about bringing the show back, but it seems pretty likely that Touch will receive more support simply because it hasn’t been given a realistic chance to survive just yet.

Do you think it is time for FOX to pull the plug on the drama? Should the network give the show at least another partial season to wrap everything up?
