‘Fringe’ Season 5 Spoilers: Time Jump, Who’s Back, and the Premiere Title

Fringe season 4 ended with Olivia announcing she’s pregnant, but it also ended with a tease that the future from “Letters of Transit” could become a reality for these characters. Where will season 5 see everyone?

Fringe Season 5 Spoilers

Photo Credit: FOXExecutive producer J.H. Wyman tweeted a photo of the season 5 premiere script cover, revealing the episode’s title: “Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11.” That’s sure to leave fans guessing until the fall. But that’s not even the best news out about what’s coming up, as John Noble talked to TVLine about the new season and dropped some pretty big spoilers. There had been some speculation that Fringe season 5 would incorporate the future in some way, and it is—in a major way. Noble revealed, “As far as I know, we’re just jumping ahead [to 2036].” They won’t just forget about the years they’re skipping, as Noble went on to say “there will be references” to what happened then, including “found footage.” That means fans will still get to see some “monumental moments.”

So Fringe‘s fifth and last season is going to be going out with a bang. With only 13 episodes to tell their story, it does make sense to just jump ahead, especially with what they revealed in “Letters of Transit.” However, there will be something different in this future: Olivia will be around, as Noble said, “Walter, Olivia, Astrid, and Peter are insurgents, so we know all the dirty tricks that have been played against us. We’ll be learning from the past.” Olivia will “be back,” as will Georgina Haig as Etta, and that means that there’s going to be another family reunion, this one between Olivia and Etta. Will it be just as touching as Peter and Etta’s? It’s likely to be even more emotional, and that’s something to look forward to.

Noble also said he wants “to see the Peter/Walter relationship come back to where it was.” It was heading that way, and it’s likely that could be one of the storylines for season 5. With it being the show’s last, there is plenty for them to wrap up and explore, and with everything planned, it seems likely that they won’t have the chance to explore everything. Hopefully the Peter/Walter relationship and Peter and Olivia (and their family) are things they do get to cover in a satisfying way.
