‘Gangnam Style’ Death: Tragedy Strikes at Brewery Christmas Party

Has the first “Gangnam Style” death just taken place?

The reputation of Psy’s famous song was recently tarnished by the discovery of a 2004 tune that featured the Korean singer saying some pretty nasty things about Americans, and now it seems that the song played a small part in the death of a man from the U.K.

Forty-six-year-old Eamonn Kilbride was dancing along to Psy’s popular song at an office Christmas party for the Thwaites brewery in Blackburn, Lancashire when he collapsed and died from a heart attack. It’s sad enough that Kilbride died so young and that his death occurred so close to the holidays, but his story gets even sadder—his wife was celebrating her birthday when he died.

So while many will probably joke about this “Gangnam Style death,” it’s a terrible tragedy. According to Fox News, Kilbride’s wife Julie said this of her husband of 23 years:

“I want people to know how he would help anybody whether it was a life-long friend, or someone he had just met.”

At least Eamonn Kilbride will be remembered—since his wife mentioned that he was dancing to “Gangnam Style” before his death, his story is getting a lot of buzz on the internet.

This tragic death isn’t the only reason Psy’s song has been making headlines recently—an internet blogger claims that Psy’s success is a sign that many more deaths are set to take place on December 21, 2012. The blogger on The Project Avalon claims that the singer is mentioned in one of Nostradamus’ doomsday prophecies and that the Earth will meet its end when “Gangnam Style” gets 1 billion views on YouTube, and it could get there by December 21.

So Psy’s song is getting a lot of bad press lately, and its involvement in a death isn’t the strangest reason it’s making headlines.
