…rushing over to mother’s to take her to meet Dad’s ambulance at the ER because he’s been passing blood for days, it’s the first time I’ve seen him in a month because I still haven’t recovered from last time when his mind was barely there and he couldn’t hold his head up, and here he is, cadaveric but alert and mostly pleasant except for abusing Mom when she tells him he can’t go out for biscuits and gravy…I turn into Jerry O’Connell in Stand By Me in the middle of the railroad trestle with the train bearing down on him…
