The George W. Bush portrait was revealed Thursday at the White House, in a ceremony which brought together Democrats and Republicans.
The presidential portrait ceremonies are always a bit awkward, and this one was no different. The current president, Barack Obama, managed to get in some gibes about the awful economy he claims to have inherited from Bush.
Whatever you may have thought of Bush’s policies, he and wife Laura conducted themselves with a huge amount of deal of class Thursday. For three-and-a-half years, they’ve been forced to listen to Obama blame him for every problem under the sun.
The Obama and the Bush camps remained cordial, however, and for the most part, put politics aside in favor of tradition for the day.
Either way, the artist did a fine job with the painting, which shows Bush standing in the Oval Office with his hand resting on a nearby chair.
The Bush portrait is actually pretty accurate, capturing the glint in his eye and his trademark American flag lapel pin. Liberals may see the hint of a smirk on his lips.
The Bush portrait ceremony was also attended by George H.W. Bush.
