GLAAD Slams ‘SNL’ Mock Estrogen Replacement Commercial (Video)

GLAAD slammed the SNL mock estrogen replacement commercial. The phony ad appeared on Saturday nightÂ’s SNL hosted by Jesse Eisenberg, featuring Nicki Minaj, with a surprise visit from FacebookÂ’s Mark Zuckerberg.

The commercial for “Estro-Maxx” isn’t making everybody laugh, though. It was one of the Saturday Night Live commercials that mock pharmaceutical commercials. You know the kind, because they do them a lot. However, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation believes that the laughter generated by the fictional product comes at the expense of the transgendered.

Because of this, GLAAD has actually demanded an apology from both SNL and NBC, because the commercial spoof was a “dangerous and blatantly anti-transgender segment.”

Do you think this is true?

The group also wants the commercial removed from any reruns and websites it is featured on. In a statement, the GLAAD said, “The piece was a mock commercial for estrogen replacement therapy and featured men with facial hair wearing dresses, meant to represent transgender women. This segment cannot be defended as ‘just a joke’ because there was no ‘joke’ to speak of. The attempted comedy of the skit hinges solely on degrading the lives and experiences of transgender women.”

It was a bit shocking to watch the commercial on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. However, do you think it is something that shouldnÂ’t have been done? You can check it out in the video below.
