‘Glee’ Season 4 Spoilers: Finn’s Future, Lea Michele’s Episode Count, and the New Format

Glee returns for its fourth season this fall, and while some characters did graduate, that doesn’t mean that they’re gone from the show for good. So what can you expect to see next?

Season 4 Spoilers

Season 3 did end with Rachel going to New York and leaving the others behind in Lima, Ohio. (Granted, it was just to look at dorms with her fathers, but still.) She had expected to get married, but instead, Finn said goodbye to her and everyone watched as she boarded the train. Season 3 was one of ups and downs for Rachel, and while she had thought she’d have Finn in her future and her dreams of going to NYADA crushed, her performance at Nationals, which she got Carmen to attend, locked in her spot at NYADA.

So while Kurt’s future is uncertain after he, Finn, and Rachel opened their letters and the two guys were rejected from their respective futures, fans know where Rachel will be. That’s part of the split format for next year, as Glee season 4 will show both what’s going on in Ohio and in New York. Kate Hudson is going to be guest starring as Rachel’s mentor, and part of the role will include the actress singing and dancing.

Sarah Jessica Parker is being brought in as a mentor for Kurt, but it’s uncertain where that will happen—and how many episodes Chris Colfer will be in. Murphy is looking forward to this new format, calling it “fun” and “re-energized”: “The Kate Hudson part is really good. The Sarah Jessica Parker part is really good. It’s fun to have those people.” Is Kurt going to find his way to New York somehow as well? He and Blaine already decided they’d handle the long distance. Will that be what happens in season 4?

Speaking of the future, Finn’s changed as the season 3 finale, “Goodbye,” ended. He sent Rachel off to New York after revealing that he was joining the Army. But will season 4 show him doing just that? That’s still unclear, as Murphy called that “a big secret.” Could Finn’s plans have changed again in season 4? Was that the end of Finn and Rachel’s relationship, or could they get back together and back to planning their wedding at some point in the future?
