Glee is going to have a different look when it returns for its fourth season in the fall, with some time spent in Lima, Ohio, and some spent in New York. But who will be where?
Season 4 Spoilers
TV Guide talked to Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer about their characters’ futures. What will Rachel be facing at NYADA? Will Finn really join the Army? Where will Kurt be after that NYADA rejection?
It had been reported that Kate Hudson’s character will have a connection to Rachel, and now it’s been revealed that she’s going to be “a hard-ass New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts dance instructor.” Michele teased, “Dance is not Rachel’s strong point, but as a freshman it’s a requirement class she has to take. It will put Rachel in a very vulnerable place, stuck with a teacher who doesn’t make it easy for her.” Is Rachel going to be facing failure? She’s going to have to be prepared for just this situation. This is NYADA after all, and if anyone has heard about how she choked—twice!—during her audition but still managed to get herself a spot (that performance at Nationals may have been her best on the show ever, but still), the expectations are going to be high for her.
Will Rachel find a way to do well in her dance class by the end of it? When Hudson was announced to be joining the cast, it had been mentioned that her role included dancing, so this role isn’t much of a surprise. You had a feeling it had to do something with NYADA and possibly a class. Will she end up being one of the best guest stars on the show?
Meanwhile, Monteith gave a tease about Finn’s future with the Army and training: “Finn would have to be in very good shape and get incredibly fit, meaning I would have to be incredibly fit. I’m doing extra stuff this summer — CrossFit and fewer Snickers bars.” It’s still unclear just how much of his storyline will be about Finn in the Army. Will that be a major part of the season, or will the aftermath of it be what’s addressed? Will he find his way to New York and back to Rachel, or will they be apart for most of season 4? When they do see one another again (because you know they have to at some point), what will Rachel think of the changes in Finn? What will this mean for Finn in the long run? This could lead to a strong storyline for him that doesn’t involve romance with anyone else, and it could prove to be one of the best arcs of the series if done right.
Finally, there’s Kurt’s future in Glee season 4. After his impressive audition, it was shocking when he was rejected from NYADA. However, that’s not going to keep him from New York as Colfer revealed, “he will find himself in an establishment where Sarah Jessica Parker is his manager of sorts, but not in a performance sense.” Michele did reveal “Parker’s character may be giving Rachel a makeover, which suggests a New York fashion-world story line for Kurt.” That has been one of the main theories since his rejection from NYADA, so that wouldn’t be surprising. What is important is that he’s going to be heading to New York, meaning he and Blaine will be facing that long distance relationship they were preparing for. Will they last? Will Kurt find another way to succeed in New York, putting NYADA behind him and only looking to the future?
