Glee star Heather Morris tells Seventeen that she refused to let her father’s death stop her from living her own life. The 24-year-old actress talks about being inspired to become a professional dancer after his death 10 years ago. Losing a parent at the tender age of 14 is definitely a life-changing event, and it’s not surprising that the star hasn’t been more open about it.
According to Us, she says, “It made me grow up in a different way. My mom and I are really close because of it, so I’m glad I have a good relationship with her, but I definitely went through a lot of phases. At times, I didn’t care at all and I went to school in my pajamas and I cried. But then I cut it out and I focused on my dancing. I was in dance class all the time.” Heather Morris used her love for dance to grieve for her father, and that just goes to show how tragedy can bring out the best qualities or the worst. Luckily for her, her loss helped bring her talents into sharper focus.
In the interview for Seventeen‘s November issue she talks about Beyoncé who she became a backup dancer for as a result of her hard work. Heather Morris obviously has a lot of respect for the singer, while still being able to see her as a peer. “Beyonce was just always full-out. She’s like a beast. There were ten dancers — four guys and six girls — including me, on the Beyonce tour. Sometimes we would go out with her, to events. She was really normal — just like everybody else!” Everyone else in the industry, or everyone else in real life? Who knows? It does take a very talented, driven person to make it in Hollywood.
Unfortunately, the timing for the release of this tidbit is particularly cruel for another Glee cast member, Charice Pempengco, who just lost her father after he was stabbed with an ice pick in what seems to be a random murder.
