Idris Elba was a surprise winner at the 2012 Golden Globes. He took home the prize for Best Actor in a Mini-Series/TV Movie for his role in Luther. Although some of the surprises were unwelcome, this one was a happy surprise.
The great thing about Idris Elba‘s win was that he had extremely tough competition with William Hurt, Bill Nighy, and Dominic West. Of course, Elba’s work in Luther was amazing, and he truly deserved this win, but people were not expecting it. As he accepted the award, it was obvious that the actor was completely thrilled that his name had been called. He had a fabulous night, no doubt. He looked amazing in his suit and studded Christian Louboutin sneakers.
Elba said of his win, “This is great. We made our little show in London, and now we’re getting this worldwide recognition of it. Love it.” Check out the video below to hear the actor express his delight about the win and discuss his future work. He confirmed he will appear in Thor 2.
Interestingly, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Golden Globes winners that were not in well-liked or even well-seen television series.
