Gossip Cop: New Site Launches Today to Provide “Credible” Celeb News

Has a new dawn of celebrity gossip arrived? The creators of Gossip Cop think so. The site, which launched today, was created by Michael Lewittes to “police the celeb gossip industry.”

Gossip Cop wants to become the our go-to destination for all “credible” celebrity news and promises to separate fact from fiction everyday on the days top gossip stories.

According the site, Gossip Cop has over 200 websites, TV shows, newspapers, and magazines under its surveillance.

I think it is an interesting idea and they have developed a cool little rumor/real meter that they place next to the day’s top trending gossip stories.

One story that Gossip Cop has trending toward the rumor end of the spectrum is the Madonna arms photo that has been making its way around the web the past few days. According to Gossip Cop “experts” the photo looks altered.

I’m not loving the design of the Gossip Cop site though. It seems very masculine (note: the site’s creators are all men) and celeb gossip frankly is a more female pursuit.

Check out the site and let me know what you think. Is it a public service we should embrace or does creating a site to debunk gossip take some of the fun out of it?
